Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson is primarily a third baseman. He has played 638 games at third at the major league level. The problem is he has only played in three games this year for AAA Norfolk, suffering a broken right arm. Despite probably being the player who could help the most, he isn’t an option.

Paul Janish

Paul Janish was just sent down for Ruben Tejada, but if Machado goes on the disabled list, would be able to return. Janish has played in 66 games in the major leagues at third base. I think we know what to expect at this point from Janish, a glove-first guy who will probably hit close to .200.

Robert Andino

Robert Andino is suspended, so he isn’t an option. However, he has played 51 games in the major leagues at third base.

Luis Sardinas

Luis Sardinas was just acquired by the Orioles on May 24 from the San Diego Padres. Sardinas is another utility infielder who is not much of a hitter, with a career .229 batting average in the major leagues.

Sardinas has played in the major leagues for Texas, Milwaukee, Seattle and San Diego, never spending a full season with a major league team. His best numbers came in 2016 with the Padres, where he hit .287/.353/.417. Sardinas has played in 17 games at the major league level.
