Baltimore Orioles: How to replace Manny Machado?
By Nate Wardle
With the Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado day-to-day with a hand injury, we deliver the wide variety of possible players that can fill the void while Machado works his way back to the diamond.
The Baltimore Orioles came back thrillingly again on Wednesday, with two clutch home runs by Trey Mancini tying the game and then winning the game in walk-off fashion.
While the Baltimore Orioles win was thrilling and exciting, the Orioles could be in trouble.
Manny Machado was injured when Andrew McCutchen slid into third base, catching Machado with his spikes. It wasn’t the prettiest of slides, and both players ended up in a head in foul territory, with McCutchen holding the bag and Manny dropping the ball.
Early reports on Machado are that he suffered a puncture on his hand that could not be stitched. Original x-rays were negative.

The Orioles are going to have to make some moves for Thursday’s game against the Washington Nationals. They likely will need a pitcher, as Darren O’Day, Richard Bleier and Ubaldo Jimenez are probably the only three relievers in the bullpen. Mike Wright is likely headed for another ride on the shuttle, despite a fantastic job in keeping the Orioles in the game against Pittsburgh.
But, what if Machado needs a DL stint? And, my guess is that he probably will. If he can’t swing a bat for a few days, you might as well put him on the DL and let him get completely healthy. The rest will help the Orioles in the long run. He will be well-rested and will hopefully be able to focus during the time off.
So, who is in the minor leagues?
