Johnny Giavotella

Johnny Giavotella has never played third base in the major leagues but does have 73 games at third base in the minor leagues throughout his career. Giavotella has arguably been the best player at AAA Norfolk this year. He is hitting .314/.384/.460 with four home runs, three triples, 15 doubles, 31 RBIs and 30 runs, with three stolen bases as well.

Giavotella has also walked more (25 times) than he has struck out (20 times). In fact, in his minor league career, Giavotella has only walked six fewer times (364 to 370) than he has struck out. He would add a measured, patient approach to the Orioles’ offense. Don’t forget, Giavotella was a second round pick in 2008 and played almost 230 games in the major leagues in 2015 and 2016 for the Los Angeles Angels, hitting .272 and .260 respectively.

Alex Castellanos

Alex Castellanos has major league experience, but in the outfield for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013. Castellanos has struggled for AAA Norfolk this year, and he is currently on the disabled list. Eliminating options who aren’t available does make this an easier discussion.
