With their first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens have selected Marlon Humphrey, a cornerback out of Alabama.

With the 16th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens have selected Marlon Humphrey, a cornerback out of Alabama.

There’s been a ton of conjecture this entire offseason over who the Ravens would select in the first round, and now we finally know that Marlon Humphrey will be a Baltimore Raven in the upcoming NFL season.

Not exactly a shock that the Ravens would select a player out of Alabama in the first round, and they selected quite a good one.

Marlon Humphrey has an excellent skill set, he’s one of the best all-around corners in the draft. He’s got quick feet, he’s physical, and has the speed to keep up with wide receivers in the NFL.

He’s great at preventing separation from happening, even with the fastest wide receivers, and is able to run routes with the more possession-focused receivers as well.

In all honesty, the only flaw in Humphrey’s game that he showed in college was his ability on the ball, though he did much better in 2016 than he did in 2015, and that’s a skill that will likely develop with time.

The Baltimore Ravens are well known for their ability to draft well, and really it’s been their general manager Ozzie Newsome who’s been the main reason behind that, as we talked about earlier this offseason.

Last year the Ravens went with left tackle Ronnie Stanley in the first round, and the year before, the team went with wide receiver Breshad Perriman in the first round.

The pick of Stanley has seemed to be a good one, as Stanley looks to be a future star tackle in the making, however the pick of Perriman in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft has been somewhat of a contentious one amongst Ravens fans since it happened.

Mostly that’s been because of Perriman’s lack of immediate impact in the Ravens offense, something the team needs desperately now that they’ve lost Steve Smith to retirement and Kamar Aiken to free agency.

The Ravens have a lot of needs right now, and it’s good to see they’ve addressed their need at cornerback with their pick of Marlon Humphrey, who very well might be the best cornerback in this entire draft.
