The Baltimore Ravens are expected to sign cornerback Morris Claiborne, whom they were connected to earlier last week. They are also exploring re-signing Lardarius Webb.

The Baltimore Ravens are expected to end up signing cornerback Morris Claiborne to a deal, according to teams monitoring Claiborne’s market, per Jason La Canfora on Twitter.

The Ravens were connected to Claiborne earlier last week, as the team looks to sure up their secondary, one of the weakest parts of what was, overall, one of the best defenses in the NFL last season.

Claiborne was the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and was considered one of the best cornerbacks available, however his career has been marred by injury after injury.

In his rookie season, Claiborne missed minicamp as he was recovering from a surgically-repaired wrist. He suffered a series of minor injuries during his rookie season and ended the year with only 55 tackles and one interception.

His second season was similarly rough, as he sprained his knee in the preseason, and then dealt with a hamstring injury and the death of his father.

He then suffered an AC joint separation and knee tendinitis in the 2014 preseason, and then tore his left patellar tendon towards the end of the season.

Injuries forced Claiborne to miss all but seven games of the 2016 season, but he performed exceptionally well in those seven games, finishing the year as He then suffered an AC joint separation and knee tendinitis in the 2014 preseason, and then tore his left patellar tendon towards the end of the season.

La Canfora also mentioned that the Ravens are exploring a reunion with Lardarius Webb, whom they released just a few days ago. The team released him to free up cap space, so likely they’re interested in bringing him back, just at a much cheaper price.

If Webb does come back, he will likely be little more than a backup safety, as Eric Weddle and the newly-signed Tony Jefferson will start at the safety positions.

If the team does end up signing Claiborne, as they’re expected to, then the Baltimore Ravens’ secondary will start to look a lot more formidable than it has in the past.
