Could Josh Johnson Make the Team?

One of the lost performances against Carolina was the play of quarterback Josh Johnson. He is a long shot to make the roster, but certainly helped his cause last week.

Johnson finished 8-of-11 for 83 yards, and while the numbers are not flashy, he engineered the offense efficiently. The Ravens scored a touchdown on his opening possession and another successful drive ended in a missed field goal. The only play that Johnson regrets is a strip sack that the Panthers were able to recover.

It is no secret that Harbaugh likes mobile quarterbacks. Troy Smith and Tyrod Taylor backed up Flacco during their careers. Johnson is a player with similar talents. He showed off his athletic ability with three carries for 17 yards. Again, not gaudy numbers, but he is capable of moving out of the pocket. Harbaugh likes that in his backup quarterbacks.

Ryan Mallett is the backup, but he wants to be a starter. Another NFL team is an injury away from inquiring about his services. Will the Ravens keep three quarterbacks? History tells us no, but his legs make him intriguing.
