The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly declined to pick up wide receiver Breshad Perriman’s fifth-year option. Perriman was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly declined to pick up wide receiver Breshad Perriman‘s fifth-year option, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Twitter. The option would have carried a $9.4 million cap hit in 2019, had the Baltimore Ravens elected to pick it up.

Perriman was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft as the 26th-overall pick out of the University of Central Florida. As his career comes to an unceremonious end in Baltimore for the time being, Perriman is likely going to be remembered as one of the Baltimore Ravens’ biggest draft busts of all time.

If there was one thing that made Perriman appealing in the draft, it was his size and speed. Perriman is 6’3″, 218 pounds, and ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the 2015 NFL Combine. However, physical gifts haven’t been enough to translate into a successful NFL career so far.

After missing all of the 2015 season due to injury, Perriman came back for the 2016 season and was fairly unimpressive, ending the year with 33 catches for 499 yards and three touchdowns. Last season was even worse, as Perriman gradually lost playing time, ending the year with 10 catches for 77 yards in 11 games, with a number of drops, including two the led to interceptions.

Throughout his career as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, Perriman has shown an inability to consistently make catches or run routes well.

It’s no shock that the Baltimore Ravens were uninterested in picking up Perriman’s option. This offseason, the Ravens signed a number of wide receivers, including Michael Crabtree, Willie Snead, John Brown, and DeVier Posey.

Not only that, but the team also drafted two receivers. The first being fourth-rounder Jaleel Scott, and the other being fifth-rounder Jordan Lasley.

Add in the fact that the team still has Chris Moore, Tim White, and Quincy Adeboyejo hanging on from last year, and you have a crowded receiving corps, one that doesn’t have time for a player like Perriman.
