The Baltimore Ravens have signed Canadian Football League star wide receiver DeVier Posey to a futures deal (as the new NFL season doesn’t officially begin until March), according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji on Twitter.
Posey has been playing for the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL since 2016 and was named the Grey Cup MVP for this past season in the Argonauts victory over the Calgary Stampeders. In that game, Posey caught a 100-yard touchdown pass, the longest play in the history of the Grey Cup.
Posey did start his career in the NFL. He was drafted out of Ohio State University by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He played in 11 games during his rookie season and didn’t produce much, however he had his most productive season in 2013, playing in 14 games and ending the year with 15 catches for 155 yards.
After the 2014 season, he was traded to the New York Jets along with the Texans’ 2015 third-round, fifth-round, and seventh-round draft picks in exchange for the Jets’ third-round draft pick which the Texans used to pick Jaelen Strong.
The Jets then waived Posey before the start of the 2015 season and was picked up by the Denver Broncos at the end of the 2015 season. The Broncos subsequently released Posey before the start of the 2016 season and Posey signed with the Argonauts.
Despite floating around the NFL as much as he has, Posey is still just 27 years old and has some talent. He’s a fairly large guy at 6’1″, 210 pounds, and showed some talent in the CFL, ending this past season with 52 catches for 744 yards.
It’s also worth noting that former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Marc Trestman is currently the head coach of the Argonauts, which means the Ravens might have some extra insight on Posey as a player.
The Baltimore Ravens need a wide receiver, their offense was their biggest problem last season and they’re short receivers with Mike Wallace and Michael Campanaro leaving for free agency.
Currently, the only receivers under contract for 2018 are Jeremy Maclin, Breshad Perriman, Chris Moore, and Tim White.

Even if Posey turns out to be nothing, he’s a low-risk acquisition with talent at a position the Ravens need. If he turns out to be something, he’ll make the Baltimore Ravens front office look very smart.
