After losing starting quarterback Tyrell Pigrome for the season in the season opener, Maryland football now is without their second-string quarterback Kasim Hill for the remainder of the season.

The worst fear for Maryland football has come true. The Terps football team have now lost Kasim Hill to torn ACL, and he is out for the year.

Tyrrell Pigrome going down in the win against Texas this season was bad for Maryland football, but the team had Kasim Hill waiting in the wings as a true freshman to relieve him and take over the offense. Not even a full month into the college football season, Maryland has now lost two quarterbacks to ACL injuries according to multiple reports.

It was a bad sign when Hill was unable to walk off the field under his own power in the UCF loss. This is one of those situations where you know something is bad, but you hope the person can make it through. For Hill, that will, unfortunately, not be possible.

More from Maryland Terrapins

At quarterback, Maryland is down to Max Bortenschlager, North Carolina transfer, Caleb Henderson, freshman Legend Brumbaugh and former Air Force quarterback and Maryland walk-on Ryan Brand.

Where does Maryland football go from here? Well, the next man up has to perform and lead this team the rest of the way. Not just at the quarterback position but at every position.

Of course, Maryland fans, teammates and media are going to have to see a lot and expect a lot from Max Bortenschlager now that he has thrust into the starting spot.

His stat line wasn’t spectacular as he threw for one touchdown, two interceptions and 132 yards passing. If he wants to take Maryland to its second consecutive bowl appearance under Head Coach D.J. Durkin, he’s going to have to play mistake-free football for the rest of the season.

Losing on a quarterback is never good but season-ending injuries for your first and second string under a month into the season and both to ACL tears is awful.

Both Tyrell Pigrome and Kasim Hill will be out for a significant amount of time, so the hope is that they come back stronger and smarter have gone through this experience.
