Baltimore Orioles: Nicknames for each Orioles during “Players Weekend”
By Jon Giles
Baltimore Orioles bullpen
Miguel Castro, RHP
Nickname: Come Hombre
I’m not quite sure why this is his nickname. Eat-Man? Man Eater? In only 11 innings, he’s allowed 7 runs, so his nickname should probably be “Come Correr”, am I right? (I don’t know if I’m right by the way. My Babbel subscription expired, and I only learned so much. I can only order dos cervecas.)
Brad Brach, RHP
Nickname: I’ll Be Brach
This time we have a favorite of Joe Angel, and a personal favorite of mine. Brach terminates batters at an 84% clip and is allowing a BABIP of only .189, third best in the AL.
He’s as strong on the mound as Arnold was at…
(23-year-old spoiler alert)
…killing the wrong Sarah Connors.
Darren O’Day, RHP
Nickname: D.O.D.
Darren has been one of the most consistent relievers in the league for nearly a decade, nailing down an 85 percent left on base percentage yearly. This year has been rough for him, but we can admit it’s been rough for most Orioles. He’s still the best mound general (not named Britton) the O’s have, so he’ll get branded: The Department of Defense.
Richard Bleier, LHP
Nickname: I Went 2 Chris Sale’s Skool
Florida Gulf Coast AKA Dunk City AKA Richard Bleier’s school AKA the school that’s attempting to keep dead bodies in different states of decomposition so students can study them.
Also Chris Sale’s school.
Zach Britton, RHP
Nickname: Great Britton
He’s pretty good, you know.
There is only one thing we know for certain, and it’s not any of these nicknames: the weekend of August 25-27 has a real chance to be special. Some players will be reaching into their respective pasts and pulling out great quips and stories never told before.
Others include “Donnie Hart, brought to you by Esskay Franks.”
