1. Rotation’s horrid stretch must end for any chance at the postseason

The Orioles’ rotation has been much maligned. Each starter (save for Ubaldo on Sunday) seems to talk about wanting to turn it around, but can’t do it. Even Dylan Bundy has been dragged down by the collective stench from the Orioles’ pitching staff, rotation and bullpen combined.

Bundy will head out on Monday night for a chance to keep the ball in the park and walks off the bases.

Over the last 30 days, how have the pitchers performed, you may be wondering?

Kevin Gausman: 6 starts, 33.2 IP, 5.88 ERA, 51 H, 23 R, 6 HR, 16 BB, 23 SO, 1.99 WHIP

Wade Miley: 6 starts, 29.2 IP, 6.07 ERA, 39 H, 24 R, 5 HR, 13 BB, 20 SO, 1.75 WHIP

Dylan Bundy: 5 starts, 30.0 IP, 3.90 ERA, 28 H, 14 R, 6 HR, 10 BB, 24 SO, 1.27 WHIP

Chris Tillman: 5 starts, 20.1 IP, 11.51 ERA, 40 H, 28 R, 8 HR, 12 BB, 14 SO, 2.56 WHIP

Alec Asher: 4 starts, 21.1 IP, 8.44 ERA (not all as a starter), 26 H, 20 ER, 4 HR, 8 BB, 16 SO, 1.59 WHIP

In case you are wondering, only Bundy is even close to being good out of those pitchers, and each start seems to be worse than the last.

So, what can be done? Maybe one quality start from Ubaldo will help turn the tide.

For the Orioles, it all comes back to the starting pitching. If it is bad, it taxes the bullpen, and all the whole pitching staff suffers.

To be competitive, especially with a weak bullpen at the moment, the Orioles need the starters to turn it around.
