3. Injuries pile up as Hardy moves to DL

The Oriole injury woes are at a point where they could derail the team. But, the news isn’t all bad.

J.J. Hardy is likely dealing with a broken wrist and will be out for at least a month, as he isn’t allowed to participate in baseball activities for four to six weeks.

We’ve talked before about the possible shortstop replacements, and it ‘s not an impressive list.

With Ryan Flaherty also hurt and not yet rehabbing, I would assume the Orioles will call up Paul Janish and either go with Manny Machado starting at shortstop with Ruben Tejada at third base. Or the Orioles could go with Janish at shortstop and Machado at thirdbase. Matchups will be key.

Chris Johnson is a week away from being at a level worth considering calling up, but he could be an option down the road. So will Flaherty, as the word from Buck Showalter Sunday evening was that Hardy would be out for awhile.

Darren O’Day isn’t ready to come back when his DL stint is up on Monday. However, he is supposed to throw off a mound for the first time. The good news is that Zach Britton may start rehabbing with minor league affiliates if the weather cooperates. The word is that he has a plan mapped out that is necessary for him to complete to return to the Orioles.

Mike Wright is not close to returning, and Chris Davis still has ways to go too.
