Maryland basketball displayed their toughness once again following a victory on the road against Ohio State as they grab their 20th win of the season.

Maryland basketball was once again tested on the road against an unyielding Ohio State team Tuesday night.

Like Saturday’s win over Minnesota, Tuesday night was no different as Maryland squeezed past Ohio State 77-71 and collected their 20th victory. Maryland remains undefeated on the road this season.

Maryland’s freshman forward Justin Jackson continued to exceed expectations as he recorded his second straight double-double with 22 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the Terps win over Ohio State Tuesday night. After Jackson earned his first career double-double last Saturday against Minnesota, the Canadian forward didn’t show any signs of slowing down after securing his a double-double in back-to-back games.

More from Maryland Terrapins

In the last two games, Jackson is averaging 25 points with 11 rebounds along with a combined 17-for-27 (63 percent) from the field and a remarkable 9-for-12 (75 percent) from beyond the arc.

Even though Maryland’s leader Melo Trimble didn’t raise any eyebrows on the stat sheet Tuesday night, the junior guard came through in the clutch when Maryland needed him most scoring Maryland’s final seven points to close the game out. Trimble finished with 13 points on 5-of-13 from the field with four assists, and three rebounds.

Maryland Terrapins’ Jared Nickens, who is averaging just 3.1 points per game, was the difference maker on Tuesday night converting on both of his three-point attempts and finished with seven points. Nickens’ seven points against Ohio State was his most since Jan 7 game at Michigan where he scored a season-high 12 points.

Tuesday night’s victory marked the Terps 20th win of the season and their eighth Big Ten win. Unexpectedly, this year’s Maryland team reached their 20th victory quicker than the highly touted 2015-16 Maryland team who earned their 19th win exactly one year from today.

Maryland now shifts their focus to No. 23 Purdue as they prepare for their biggest game of the season. Maryland, who has played five of their last seven games on the road, returns to XFINITY Center Sunday at noon to take on Purdue.

The Terps’ schedule doesn’t get any easier heading into February with games against No. 23 Purdue this Saturday and back-to-back road contests with No. 25 Northwestern and No. 10 Wisconsin.
