The Baltimore Ravens have gone through five offensive coordinators in the past five seasons, something that has hurt Joe Flacco. The team needs stability at the position to improve the offense.

For Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, the offensive coordinator position has been a revolving door of ever-changing faces.

Flacco has had more offensive coordinators since 2012 than any other quarterback in the NFL, and it shows in his stats.

Since 2012, the Baltimore Ravens have had Cam Cameron, Jim Caldwell, Gary Kubiak, Marc Trestman, and Marty Mornhinweg as offensive coordinators. That’s five coaches in five seasons.

For comparison’s sake, the two quarterbacks in this year’s Super Bowl have had two (Matt Ryan) and one (Tom Brady) in that same time span. Stability is key to success.

In fact, there are four quarterbacks in the NFL who have had only one offensive coordinator over the past five seasons. Along with Brady there’s Russell Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger, and Drew Brees, all quarterbacks who ranked in the top-10 in the NFL in passer rating during those seasons.

Flacco’s lack of stability has shown in his stats over that five-season period. Since the 2012 Super Bowl season, Flacco has a passer rating of 82.5 with 80 touchdowns and 61 interceptions, good for 33rd in the league over that time span.

It showed last season too, as Flacco was second in the NFL in passing attempts (672), behind only Drew Brees (673), but was 27th in yards per attempt (6.4) and 11th in yards per game (270).

He was also tied for the seventh-most interceptions in the league (15) and was 24th in passer rating (83.5), just behind Trevor Siemian (84.6), and just ahead of Carson Wentz (79.3).

If Marty Mornhinweg can finish out the 2017 season, it’ll be Flacco’s longest time with a single offensive coordinator since Cam Cameron. Hopefully, if that happens, that means Mornhinweg is able to figure things out to improve Flacco’s game.

John Harbaugh, among others, believe that a West Coast style offense is best suited for Flacco, which is the offensive style Kubiak brought to the team. Fortunately for him, Mornhinweg has been running that system for the better part of three decades. Hopefully it will lead to an improvement in the Baltimore Ravens passing game.
