4. Trey Burke’s breakout performance helps Wizards reach .500

In the absence of Bradley Beal, who sat out due to an ankle sprain, the former top 10 draft pick Trey Burke stepped up when his team needed him most. Burke, who the Wizards acquired this offseason from the Utah Jazz, scored a season-high 27 points against the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 30th at Verizon Center.

The 27-year-old and former Michigan standout shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field to start the game and scored 20 points going into halftime.

The Wizards’ bench, who currently ranks 29th in points among NBA benches, put on quality performance, scoring a season-high 50 points collectively. The three-time NBA All-Star John Wall recorded yet again another double-double with 19 points and 14 assists. The Polish Machine may have had his dunk of the season,

In the third quarter, The Polish Machine, Marcin Gortat, put down one of his more authoritative slams of his career. Following a Wall miss, Gortat launched in the air for the offensive rebound and threw down a massive one-handed slam over Nets’ Sean Kilpatrick.

Ultimately, the Wizards collected their eighth consecutive victory at home against the Brooklyn Nets 118-95.
