Maryland Terrapins: Major Comeback Win Over Georgetown
By Steve Rudden
The young Maryland Terrapins blocked the Georgetown Hoyas attempt to beat the Terps in a game that came right down to the wire.
For the Maryland Terrapins, the game against the Georgetown Hoyas was one that could propel them into greatness this season. It wasn’t looking good for the Terps, who were down nine points with less than four minutes remaining in the game.
Melo Trimble lead Maryland with 22 points and scored the final two free throws to give the Terps the lead for good. It was then that Kevin Huerter blocked what would’ve been the game-winning basket and it sealed comeback and the win for the Terps.
With the win, it gives the Maryland Terrapins a 2-0 record this season. It also gives them a 2-0 advantage over the Georgetown in the past two seasons. I’m hoping this local rivalry continues because these two games have been fantastic and draw big crowds.

I wasn’t very confident going into this game that the Terps were going to win, the Hoyas are a much improved team since last season and since Maryland lost a lot of talent from last season, I didn’t think they had a much of a shot at winning.
Moving forward
Melo Trimble is the heart and soul of this team so if he’s playing well, the Terps will do well. If he’s struggling, the young Terps team will also struggle. The more early wins Maryland gets, the better chances they will make the NCAA Tournament.

The first two games this season for Maryland have been really tight and we should expect that from a team with very few seniors on the roster. The good thing about this team is that they have a fantastic coach in Mark Turgeon and guard Melo Trimble leading the way.
The win against Georgetown will give this young team confidence moving forward that will ultimately benefit them for the rest of the season. Now if they lost in in the final seconds, it would’ve been a different story, granted this experience would’ve made them better in the long run, but you always want to win as many games early on to pad your stats heading into March.

I’m hoping these close games will help the freshman throughout the season improve their games so it isn’t always Trimble making the tough shots. He will need a supporting cast if Maryland makes the NCAA tournament, you don’t want a worn-down and injured Melo Trimble all season, so getting him rest and help with the other players on the roster will help the overall Terrapins team. I’m excited to see what they are capable for the rest of the season.
