With the loss of three starters from last year, the expectations for the Maryland Terrapins aren’t as high this season.

The Maryland Terrapins lost three important members of their basketball team heading into this season. Those losses will definitely have an impact on the expectations they receive this season.

Melo Trimble returns for his Junior year, which will definitely give the Terps a boost on offense. It was looking like he would enter the NBA Draft after last season, but he struggled last season, and though he never admitted to it, injuries played a part in his subpar sophomore season.

The Terps have a very young roster which will go through some growing pains, but I believe Trimble will help ease those growing pains with his experience. Mark Turgeon has been known to be a great coach and can do wonders with this young, but talented roster.

More from Maryland Terrapins

Since the expectations for Maryland isn’t as high as last season, they could be sleepers in the Big Ten Conference, no one will be licking their chops in order to beat a National Championship Contender like last season. It seemed like every game, the Terps were getting the very best from each and every one of their opponents, even the teams projected to be at the bottom of the Big Ten.

I’ve read that Maryland is projected to be 7th in the Big Ten Conference this season, we’ll see if that adds up. I’m guessing the Terps surprise some people and are 4th or 5th in the conference at season’s end.

Melo Trimble is the key to this team, the better he is at getting to the basketball and getting his teammates involved, the better this Terrapin team will be.

No one expected the Terps to do so well with Trimble as a freshman, so now that he’s healthy, I have a good feeling that Trimble and the Terps will surprise a lot of teams.
