Baltimore Orioles: Manny Machado Among Baseball’s Top Third Basemen

Baltimore Orioles Manny Machado and Toronto Blue Jays Josh Donaldson are not only the best third basemen in the AL East but in all of baseball.

As Spring Training began for the Baltimore Orioles, I started my annual series of ranking each position in the American League East (Previous rankings: C | 1B | 2B | 3B | SS).

With the 2016 season officially over, I have released my latest AL East rankings for the catcher, first base, and second base positions. Now we move to the highly-skilled third base position which features some of the best players in baseball, one of which is a member of the Baltimore Orioles.

Third base is one of the most competitive positions in the division. Toronto Blue Jays Josh Donaldson and Baltimore Orioles Manny Machado are both bright stars in the game. Last year, Donaldson was first. In my prediction for 2016, Josh Donaldson was also first. Did Machado pass him?

In looking at those rankings compared to performance, I will examine each player who played at least ten games at the position for that team.
