Baltimore Orioles Jonathan Schoop has emerged as one of the best second basemen in the AL East, a division that continues to grow.

Around the beginning of Spring Training, I did my annual series ranking the AL East by position, starting with the catchers.

If you want to look at my reviews for both the catcher and first base position, comparing my preseason predictions, and my actual reviews, just click on the position.

Now on to second base. I remarked going into 2016 that second base would be a tough call. You had an aging Dustin Pedroia, coming off a year of injuries. A new addition in Starlin Castro. Logan Forsythe coming off a breakout year, and Jonathan Schoop just needing to stay healthy. The Blue Jays, I thought would bring up the year, largely because of Devon Travis being injured, and the other options being defensive options. The Toronto fans didn’t agree with me on that.

In looking at those rankings compared to performance, I will examine each player who played at least ten games at the position for that team.
