Baltimore Ravens: Worst Draft Picks of Each Round
By Joe Serpico
First Round: WR Travis Taylor (No. 10 – 2000)
Every Ravens fan can agree that selecting Travis Taylor with the 10th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft was the biggest mistake in franchise history. The Ravens were fortunate enough to have two top-10 picks that season, and did get at least one pick right that year. Jamal Lewis was drafted fifth overall and he basically carried the Ravens to a Super Bowl in his rookie season.
Some will argue that the honor should go to Boller, but he was not drafted as high as Taylor. Taylor and Lewis were supposed to be the start of a great offense for Baltimore, but their was no passing game with Taylor on the field. You expect better than 61 catches and six touchdowns as the best season from a top-10 choice. He would finish his Ravens career with 204 catches for 2,758 yards and 15 touchdowns in 67 games with the team. By comparison, Odell Beckham has put up better numbers in just a year and a half of NFL action.
Taylor lasted only four seasons in Baltimore, and was a journeyman the rest of his career with stops in Minnesota, Oakland, St. Louis, Carolina and Detroit. Taylor goes down as the worst first-round pick, but not the worst pick in franchise history.
