The strength of the Ravens defense last season was their defensive line. That should not stop them from adding another solid interior defender to their D.

Chris Canty was another veteran cap casualty this offseason which leaves an opening at defensive end. Adding Matt Ioannidis gives Baltimore another player that could line up at all three positions on the defensive line, much like last year’s third-round pick Carl Davis.

Like any player that comes from Temple, Ioannidis is not lacking in motor and toughness. He gives his all on every play and has the ability to push the pocket. He is a solid run defender, but can get pushed around by stronger offensive linemen. That’s why his effort will be key to a successful career.

His ability to play anywhere on the defensive line has some draft experts wondering exactly what position he will play in the NFL. That was also the case for Terrance Knighton and Muhammad Wilkerson, who also came from Temple and have enjoyed solid pro careers. Ioannidis isn’t on the same level as Wilkerson or Knighton, but will contribute in the NFL.
