The Baltimore Ravens and Percy Harvin connection is nothing but speculation at a quiet time during the NFL offseason.

There is no denying that the Baltimore Ravens are in the market for wide receivers that can stretch the field. That does not mean every single fast guy in the league should be linked to them.

ProFootballTalk is speculating that the Ravens “could end up being the mix” for Percy Harvin. Mike Florio says a return a Buffalo is also possible in addition to the Ravens reaching out. There is nothing to this report other than trying to make an educated guess.

While Harvin fits the mold of a player that can get down field in a hurry, linking the two parties is unfounded. It’s speculation that is getting fans worked up for not. The Ravens have their man visiting The Castle today.

Harvin is coming off a season in which he played five games for the Buffalo Bills, and has not made it through an entire season since 2011. He’s never topped a 1,000 yards in a season and has seen his numbers dramatically decrease since that 2011 season.

More from Baltimore Ravens

When he has been on the field, Harvin is a special talent. He is explosive in space, and would be an upgrade at wide receiver and in the return game. The problem is he does not stay on the field and the Ravens just went through a year in which injuries derailed their season. He also has a history of causing some drama in the locker room which lead to his departure from the Seattle Seahawks.

Baltimore is in the market for a wide receiver and has brought in another former Viking in Mike Wallace for a visit. Sarah Ellison of BaltimoreRavens.com put it perfectly this morning saying “there’s no real tangible evidence that the Ravens are interested, as all sights are still set on another wide receiver, Mike Wallace, who has the chance to impact the Ravens immediately.”

It is possible that the Wallace does leave Baltimore without a deal, but the Ravens rarely let that happen. I would be shocked if the news didn’t break about Wallace soon and kill this Harvin rumor quickly.

UPDATE: Minutes after this story was posted, Mike Wallace agreed to sign with the Ravens.
