Baltimore Ravens: 2015 Cornerback Grades
By Joe Serpico
Webb has had an interesting past two years to say the least. He has battled back and hamstring injuries to enter the seasons. He was asked to take a pay cut last offseason and will likely be forced to do so again. Now he finds himself switching to safety after being a corner for his entire NFL career.
Webb was not terrible this season, but he was not great either. Like much of the Ravens secondary, he played much better in the final eight games when the team made him move to safety. He was on the record of saying “maybe when I get old” when asked about playing safety in November, but that times is now.
The position is not foreign to Webb as he played safety in college as well. The Ravens are hopeful that the transition to safety keeps Webb in the league longer. Several other players around the league have had success with the switch, including Charles Woodson, Malcolm Jenkins and DeAngelo Hall. If Webb can play well at secondary, the Ravens can hope to grab a top talent in the draft or free agency to place in Webb’s former spot.
