If you are like me, you were rooting for the Delaware product to excel just because he comes from the same school as Flacco. He was a fringe player heading into the season because of the uncertainty that surrounded Pitta’s return. It was a good thing that the Ravens added him to their 53-man roster.

Boyle never had a game that stood out, but seemed to come up with big plays whenever his number was called. He hauled in 18 of his 23 targets and also was rated the best pass-blocker among the team’s tight ends, according to Pro Football Focus.

He did let us down when the news came about that he would be suspended for performance-enhancing drugs. You can call it a rookie mistake that the young man used something he should not have taken. He was the only player to have his season cut short and it not be due to an injury. He will learn from that.

Boyle has the tools to be a solid second option in the offense. He is strong at the point of the attack, but also tough to bring down after the catch. Pitta has hinted at trying to come back next season which could take a roster spot away, but all three of the Ravens current tight ends should be safe to make the team for the 2016 season.
