Avoiding Injury

The number one concern in any game, but especially meaningless preseason games, is to keep everyone healthy. The Ravens were ravished by injuries last season and have already lost Matt Elam and Brent Urban to biceps injuries in camp.

Perriman, defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan (foot) and offensive linemen John Urschel and Robert Myers (concussions) have missed practices over the last few days and will likely not play. Cornerback Lardarius Webb (hamstring) and safety Kendrick Lewis (leg) returned to practice, but could also be held out for precautionary measures.

Injuries are a part of the game and the reason for minimal plays by the starters is to decrease the risk. The only downfall is that the injuries seem to happen to players that add depth to the team. You don’t wish injury on anyone, but if it’s got to happen in the first preseason game, you’re hopeful it isn’t a player the team is expecting big things from.

We can almost guarantee this: Flacco won’t miss the season because of a fringe player breaking his jaw into two pieces.
