The Baltimore Ravens’ training camp has not slowed down as the players prepare for full-contact practices this weekend. As the practices progress, the team continues to release players and sign new ones.
The team is cutting quarterback Jerry Lovelocke who will be replaced by Trent Steelman, a former Army quarterback who is transitioning to wide receiver after trying out with the team, according to former Baltimore Insider Aaron Wilson.
The move is interesting as the wide receiver competition is already tightly packed, and I cannot believe he will have any major impact. The Ravens already have 11 receivers on the roster with the addition Tom Nelson, and Steelman will make 12.

Tight end Maxx Williams is competing for the other pass catcher position. Crockett Gillmore is the expected starter, but the rookie showed some of his talent on the field. He has been a silent participant during the early parts of the offseason practices.
One good practice does not mean he is ready for the season. However, it’s good to see him showing progress during training camp, but the second-round pick still has a while to go.
With offensive coordinator Marc Trestman’s history, the wide receivers and tight ends are not the only players catching passes. The second day of training camp showed the running backs are going to be a part of the passing offense as well.
Justin Forsett, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Javorius “Buck” Allen all were the targets of the quarterbacks in some capacity. The fullback Kyle Juszczyk showed off his hands during practice as well.
Fans should expect to see more passes thrown to the running backs this season. It is something Joe Flacco has done in the past, so it is not a considerable new tactic for the team.
The defense can begin to show what it can do when pads come on for full contact during today’s practice. Brandon Williams showed to be a force to reckon with in the middle of the field, and he will be able to show it even more with pads on.

Here are some other quick hits about the health of the players after day two.
As we wrote about earlier today, Lardarius Webb is practicing with the team after passing his conditioning test.
Safety Quinton Pointer collided with Steve Smith Sr. during practice. The veteran receiver landed hard on his back, but left the field without the aid from trainers. He did not mention it during his press conference afterwards.
Defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan left practice early after becoming dehydrated. The temperatures reached 85 degrees at one point during the day.
Breshad Perriman sat out due to his knee that he tweaked on the first day. Elvis Dumervil did not practice because of tendonitis, but head coach John Harbaugh does not believe either of these injuries will keep either player out for more than a couple of days.
The team heads out onto the practice field again at 8:30 a.m. for day three of training camp.
