The Baltimore Ravens are nearly ready to return to the field for training camp. With many position competitions ready to take place, the wide receivers may still be one of the most important.

The team expects, as earlier reported, Michael Campanaro and Aldrick Robinson to return to the field for training camp. If they have remained on track, the two receivers should jump back into the competition.

However, the young receivers have lost a lot of time on the field. The other receivers have been able to create a gap in the competition. Campanaro and Robinson have a lot of catching up to do once training camp comes around.

The biggest question, for Campanaro more so than Robinson, is if he can stay healthy. His injuries have been the biggest roadblock for him in his short career, as shown during OTAs. If he can maintain his health, he could make a run for a receiver position and maybe the returner spot, but he has to overcome the injury problems.

The former Wake Forest receiver not only needs to stay healthy during training camp, but when the preseason starts, he needs to stay injury free during actual game play. Conditioning has to be a vital aspect of the rest of his summer before the real games start.

Unless he finds a healthy solution, the other receivers such as Kamar Aiken or Jeremy Butler are going to be much better picks for the final roster. Nonetheless, the receiver battle is going to one of the most fun to watch with the return of the young players.

However, what happens if the opposite occurs with Campanaro and Aldrick unable to return in time for training camp?

They would still have the preseason, but with cuts coming very soon during that period, the two young receivers do not have much to show why they belong on the roster. The other receivers have had much more time on the field to become familiar with the offense.

Essentially, especially for Campanaro, if they cannot return to the field by training camp, they can say goodbye to their chance to make the team. There is always a chance, but the wide receiver competition is tight, so they need every advantage on their side. The advantages can only come to them if they are on the field.

The second-year player is trying to show the team he can be healthy, so obviously, it is very important for him to come back from his injury at the beginning of training camp. If he can’t, I do not see him being a valuable part of the offense, especially with other players showing they can be.

The next step is the report that he is on the field, which may not even come until training camp begins or the players report. Until then, we wait.
