Baltimore Ravens Rookies Report to Training Camp Next Week

The dog days of summer does not apply to just baseball. If you are one of those people who do not care for baseball (what are you thinking!?), then the period from February to late July without NFL action is one of the worst stretches for sports fan. Today is a perfect example of that because it is a VERY quiet night for sports on television tonight. Your choices for this evening are Gold Cup matches, NBA Summer League games or the ESPYs.

Relax Baltimoreans, football is right around the corner.

The countdown to training camp is winding down as the Baltimore Ravens rookies are scheduled to report to the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills, Md. one week from today on July 22.

The 2015 rookie class will feature the two new playmakers on offense in Breshad Perriman and Maxx Williams. Ozzie Newsome used six of his nine draft picks on offense, the most the team has focused on offense during the draft since 2008 when they drafted Joe Flacco and Ray Rice in the first two rounds. Rice had a fine career with the Ravens before throwing his life down the drain one drunken night. There is not much that has to be said about Flacco’s impact on the franchise. The Ravens’ brass is hopeful that this year’s class will have a long-lasting impact as well.

The rookies will take part in a walkthrough practice on July 23. Injured veterans are to report the next day and quarterbacks will be in attendance on July 26. Veterans will report on July 29 and a full-team practice is a scheduled for July 30 at 8:30 a.m.

The Ravens rookies will be some of the first players to hit the football field to open training camp, much like they were a season ago. The Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints are the only two other teams that are asking their rookies to report on the same date. Many of the other teams in the league will not start for another week and several won’t open camp until Aug. 1. That gives the Ravens as many as 10 days of workouts before some of their competition, giving John Harbaugh’s group a head start on the season before many other teams.

That will not be the case for the Ravens first preseason opponent because that happens to be the aforementioned Saints who will start on the same day. The Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore’s Week 2 opponent, are one of those teams asking all players – rookies and veterans – to report on Aug. 1. The Ravens will break training camp on Aug. 18 and travel to Philadelphia for joint-practices with the Eagles before their nationally televised game on Aug. 22.

Baltimore is also holding an open practice on Aug. 3 at M&T Bank Stadium at 7 p.m.

It has been a long summer of boredom and speculation for everyone throughout the NFL. The Ravens will enter the season as one of the favorites to win it all much like the past few seasons. The Ravens have quality depth throughout the roster and have a plethora of interesting training camp battles to watch for. Everyone starts the year healthy (for the most part) and with a chance.

This time next week, the Baltimore Ravens will officially kick off the start of the 2015 season and begin the quest for their third Super Bowl victory in franchise history. To quote our favorite Monday night programming: “Are you ready for some football!?”
