Joe Flacco vs. Eric Weddle

Joe Flacco has a much tougher assignment than he had last week. He faced a very banged-up secondary, including a new starting free safety.

This week he will be facing arguably the best free safety in the AFC. The deep ball is a huge part of the Ravens offense and Weddle will do his very best to keep everything underneath and in front of him.

Weddle has been amazing this season; he ranks at the top of all safeties on PFF with a 19.8 grade. Because of Weddle’s impact, I don’t think Flacco will have very many opportunities to throw the deep ball. Flacco must be careful to not turn the ball over, and will need to be very opportunistic because of Weddle’s abilities and range.

Gary Kubiak will look to throw away from Weddle and keep the passing game efficient and short. A lot of the Ravens offense is based upon the play-action passing game. Unfortunately, Weddle will not be as easily fooled as the other safeties the Ravens have faced. It will definitely be interesting to see how Kubiak accounts for such a talented player on the other side of the ball.
