Baltimore Ravens vs Carolina Panthers: Who’s Playing, Who’s Not

facebooktwitterreddit

The Baltimore Ravens are 2-1 after three weeks and they will look to improve upon that record in Week 4. However, they have two large obstacles in their way: the Carolina Panthers and injuries.

Starting cornerback Lardarius Webb returned last week from a back injury that he suffered on the second day of training camp, but he did not look like the Lardarius Webb that we are used to seeing. Last week, Dennis Pitta dislocated his hip and it just so happened to be the same exact hip that he dislocated in 2013. He is done for the year.

Here are some other injuries to look out for in this week’s game:

DT Timmy Jernigan and LT Eugene Monroe are OUT

Starting left tackle Eugene Monroe underwent knee surgery this past week and he will reportedly miss 3-4 weeks. Rookie lineman James Hurst is expected to start at left tackle.

Rookie defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan will miss his second straight game against the Panthers. Jernigan did not get much playing time in his first career game so it is yet to be seen whether the third-round pick out of Florida State can play or not.

The Ravens were already thin at defensive tackle with Kapron Lewis-Moore and rookie Brent Urban both out for the year. They will be even thinner on Sunday, when they will be without Jernigan and possibly another veteran defensive tackle.

DT Chris Canty is QUESTIONABLE

The Ravens could be even thinner at defensive tackle if Chris Canty were to miss this game. He did not practice all week, so being listed as questionable is still a positive.

Probable: RB Bernard Pierce, OLB Terrell Suggs, CB Jimmy Smith

The only one of these three players that has a shot of missing this game is running back Bernard Pierce and there are a few reasons why. First off, he missed last week’s game and is still recovering from an injury he suffered two weeks ago.

Secondly, after seeing the performance that rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro and veteran Justin Forsett displayed over the last two weeks, it might be wise to give Pierce a bit more rest.

I would be dearly surprised if either Suggs or Jimmy Smith were to miss this game. You are always going to have one or two of those players that are listed on the injury report and they don’t actually have a real concern.
