Baltimore Ravens rookies reported to training camp on Friday, five days before the veterans take over the Under Armour Performance Center.

The entire Baltimore Ravens team will be in attendance on July 27, but the youngsters who will hopefully be the future of the franchise are in the building and ready to take on their NFL dreams.

This is an important year for the Ravens as they hope to shift from an aging team to a younger, faster one. hey allowed Chris Canty and Daryl Smith to walk, but added 11 players in the draft and a handful of undrafted rookies shortly after.

While the additions of Eric Weddle and Mike Wallace were the high profile signings, this class of rookies will need to step up immediately in order for the Ravens to avoid another 5-11 season. Several could find themselves in prominent roles right out of the gate.

We know that first-round pick Ronnie Stanley will be the starter at left tackle. That decision was made when the team decided to release Eugene Monroe. The Ravens are hopeful that Stanley becomes a mainstay at left tackle, similar to what they had with Hall of Famer Jonathan Ogden.

Second-round choice Kamalei Correa might end up as the starting inside linebacker. Bronson Kaufusi could take over Canty’s role. The five fourth-round picks all have an opportunity to be future starters as well. Maurice Canady, the Ravens final draft choice, has been impressive in offseason workouts.

Baltimore also has a history of finding undrafted free agents that end up sticking around with the club. I have previously written about three sleepers who could make the roster, all of whom went undrafted. It was a stunner that Victor Ochi was not drafted, and I can guarantee that if he doesn’t make the Ravens, he will be one someone’s 53-man roster come Week One.

More importantly for the Ravens, many of the injured players are back at “The Castle.” That includes the biggest piece, quarterback Joe Flacco. Kamar Aiken told BaltimoreRavens.com that “he looks 100 percent to me.” That’s the news everyone wanted to hear.

Getting Flacco into camp is big for the team as he needs to get acclimated with all the new toys at his disposal. Wallace and Ben Watson will not be in attendance until Wednesday, but rookie Chris Moore and hopefully Breshad Perriman will catch passes from Joe the first coupledays.

There are plenty of storylines to follow during Ravens training camp as the dog days of summer are almost over. The NFL season is on the horizon, football fans. We hope this season is a lot more exciting than the last.
