The Baltimore Ravens are holding left tackle Eugene Monroe out of practices in hopes of working on a trade by the end of the week.

It is a move many expected a while ago. There have been rumors all offseason that Eugene Monroe could be on his way out of Baltimore. It looks like it is going to happen a lot later than expected.

Monroe is signed until the 2018 season, but his guaranteed money is no longer in play which has fueled talk that he could be released. It was something many of us expected before free agency started.

Instead, the Ravens kept him around for the time being.

General Manager Ozzie Newsome used the No. 6 pick on Notre Dame left tackle Ronnie Stanley. Once again, the rumors of Monroe heading elsewhere started to come about. When he stuck around after the post-June 1 cuts, it really did seem as though he would be with the team for the 2016 season.

Not anymore.

The Ravens had to wait until Monroe was healthy to begin shopping him around to other teams. He was medically cleared this week and that has allowed the team to move forward with their plans to move him.

The team is holding Monroe out of their mandatory minicamp practices in hopes of working on a potential trade partner. John Harbaugh let it be known that he was available and that is the reason he was held out of practices.

“My understanding right now is that teams are inquiring about Eugene, and when you’re in that kind of situation and there’s a possibility of those kinds of things happening, you’re pretty much obligated to pull back and not practice a guy,” Harbaugh told BaltimoreRavens.com. “So that’s where it’s at right now, it’s in Ozzie’s hands, and we’ll just see where it goes.”

There are several reasons why Monroe is no longer wanted in Baltimore. He has started only 17 games in two seasons since signing a new deal that gave him$17.5 million in guaranteed money. He also is a strong advocate for medical marijuana, a stance that the team has not supported.

His injury history, Stanley being in the mix and the national media surrounding Monroe, it is no surprise that the Ravens want him out. What another team will give up for him is unknown.

What we do know is that Monroe is on the way out and Stanley will be the left tackle this season. Now we are left to wonder who starts at left guard.
