Rylan Bannon – 3B

Rylan Bannon was drafted in the eighth round of the 2017 draft by the Dodgers out of Xavier and has had a lot of success in the minors so far. In his 40 games at the Dodgers rookie-level team, he slashed .336/.425/.591 with 10 home runs, 39 runs, and 30 RBI.

He kept up that hitting ability at High-A this year, slashing .296/.402/.559 with 20 home runs, 58 runs, and 61 RBI, putting him on pace for an almost 30 home run season. Since joining the Orioles, he’s played in seven games and is slashing .143/.182/.333.

He’s shown himself to be a fairly patient hitter, walking at a 14.6% clip in High-A this year and a 10.9% clip last year. He’s also got some great power. While we don’t have statcast information on just how hard he’s been hitting the ball in the minors, the fact that he had 20 home runs in High-A this year with an 18.7% HR/FB rate suggests to me that he’s hitting the ball pretty hard. That’s kept up in Bowie, as he has a .190 ISO with a 14.3% HR/FB rate.

The argument can be made that he should have been crushing at High-A as a 22-year-old, so we’ll see how things pick up now that he’s in Double-A.
