Luis Ortiz – RHP
This is actually the second time Luis Ortiz has been traded. After being drafted with the 30th-overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers, Ortiz was traded to the Brewers along with Lewis Brinson in exchange for Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress.
So far this season in Double-A, Ortiz has been solid, pitching to a 3.71 ERA and an 8.60 K/9 over 11 starts and 68 innings.
He’s a big dude, at 6’3″, 230 pounds, which allows him to maintain a high-velocity fastball deep into games. His fastball sits around 92-97 MPH and he combines that with a solid slider, a changeup that’s a work in progress, and a below-average curveball.
He’s got a repeatable delivery and he’s durable. If he’s able to improve his changeup, he’s got the upside of being a good, mid-rotation starting pitcher at the major league level.
