It’s not quite the massive haul that the Baltimore Orioles received for Manny Machado, however that’s no shock considering the injury Britton came off of earlier this year, and the fact that this trade is for a few-month rental.
Prior to the trade, trade rumors around Britton had been heating up, with MLB Network’s Jon Heyman theorizing that the team might do as well with a Britton trade as they did trading Machado.
Previously, the Chicago Cubs and the Houston Astros appeared to be the leaders most likely to acquire Britton. There’s especially a history between Britton and the Astros as the Baltimore Orioles nearly traded Britton to the Astros at last year’s MLB Trade Deadline before the deal ultimately fell apart.
