Yusniel Diaz – OF

This was the big get for the Baltimore Orioles – Yusniel Diaz. The only prospect in this trade that’s ranked as a top-100 prospect, Diaz may now be the best player in the Baltimore Orioles’ minor league system (or at least one of the best).

Diaz has loads of potential, and he showed some of that with a great year last season, slashing .292/.354/.433 between High-A and Double-A. So far this year in Double-A, he’s slashed .314/.428/.477.

He hasn’t shown a ton of power yet in his professional career, but many scouts think he has more potential for power than he’s shown so far. Even so, he could be a 15 home run guy with a high average.

He’s also an above-average runner, and while he hasn’t shown a penchant for stealing many bases so far (he stole just nine last year), he’s got the potential to be a good basestealer as he gains experience. It seems like he’s getting better at that this year too, as he’s already stolen eight bases on the year.

Overall, Diaz looks to have the potential of a very solid, everyday outfielder who can hit for a high average, can take a walk (he’s got a 15.5% walk rate so far this year), hit for decent power, and steal some bases.
