The Baltimore Orioles have officially traded Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for five prospects. Let’s take a look at them.

The Baltimore Orioles have officially traded Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for five prospects.

Those five prospects are:

While the trade doesn’t include players like Dustin May and Gavin Lux, which many Baltimore Orioles fans had hoped for, there are some positives to these players, and here we’ll take a look at the five players acquired in the deal.

First up:

Breyvic Valera – 2B/3B

Obviously the final throw-in of the deal, Breyvic Valera is 26 and has been playing professionally since 2010 when he was signed as an international free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals. Valera was traded to the Dodgers this past April in exchange for Johan Mieses.

Valera has already seen major league time, playing just five games for the Cardinals last year and 20 games for the Dodgers this year. In his time in the majors this year, Valera has slashed .172/.273/.172. If those numbers seem pretty depressing to you, it’s important to remember that was in just 20 games, and that during his full season in Triple-A last year, he slashed .314/.368/.450 with eight home runs, 68 runs, 41 RBI, and 11 steals.

Like I said, Valera wasn’t the main focus of this deal by any stretch. He’s basically a guy, he’s a solid fielder who has the ability to hit for a good average with limited power.
