Baltimore Orioles: 7 Teams Make Offers for Machado—2 Emerging as Favorites
By Ben Palmer
The Baltimore Orioles have fielded trade offers from seven teams for Manny Machado, with two teams emerging as favorites to make a deal.
The Baltimore Orioles have fielded trade offers from seven teams for Manny Machado, according to Eduardo A. Encina from the Baltimore Sun.
According to Encina, the seven teams “in order of appeal” are:
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Arizona Diamondbacks
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Philadelphia Phillies
- Atlanta Braves
- Cleveland Indians
- Chicago Cubs
Encina added that all seven offers are reportedly “very close” in appeal and a number of other teams have checked in with the Baltimore Orioles on acquiring Machado.
However, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Dodgers and the Brewers are the two “most serious” trade candidates to acquire Machado. Rosenthal also reports that the Indians are also in the mix for Machado, however the remainder of Machado’s $16M contract “might be an obstacle.”

The Dodgers seem to make the most sense for the Orioles as a trade partner. They lost shortstop Corey Seager for the season to Tommy John surgery and have been using Chris Taylor at shortstop.
Currently, the Dodgers are second in the NL West, just one game behind the Diamondbacks, and look to be in a good position to make a playoff run, especially if the acquire Machado. The Dodgers also have a number of good prospects to trade, including outfielders Alex Verdugo and Yusniel Diaz, as well as pitchers Mitchell White and Yadier Alvarez.
Per Encina’s reporting, the Dodgers have not offered Verdugo or Alvarez to the Orioles, however that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re impossible to acquire.
The Diamondbacks are also an interesting potential trade partner, however they don’t necessarily have the depth in their minor league system to make a substantial offer for Machado.
That being said, the Orioles are reportedly interested in the Diamondbacks’ top pitching prospect (and top-100 prospect) Jon Duplantier, however MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports that the Orioles are concerned about the fact that Duplantier hasn’t pitched since May 27 because of biceps tendinitis.

It seems that the Orioles have their pick of teams to trade Machado to, and lots of interest is a good thing—it means that the Orioles can play the market and (hopefully) get the best offer available. Either way, this trade will likely happen relatively soon, and it could be a major step towards the Orioles rebuilding their team.
