The Baltimore Orioles are heading in a new direction, with a number of veterans leaving and a new youth movement beginning.

The end of an era marks the start of a new youth movement. As July arrives, we may be seeing the last of some of the longest tenured Baltimore Orioles stars.

July 31st at 4 p.m. marks the major league baseball trading deadline.  The Orioles look to sell off certain pieces in hopes of a better future.

Manny Machado, Adam Jones, Zach Britton, and Brad Brach all have contracts expiring after this year.  Players like Danny Valencia or Mark Trumbo could potentially get traded to teams that could use another bat in their lineup.

Slow Yet Steady Youth Movement

We are starting to see a slow progression of youth added to the 40-man roster over the last few months.

More from Baltimore Orioles

Ryan Meisinger and Paul Fry were added to the 40-man roster on Friday and join other rookie players such as Chance Sisco, Austin Wynns, Hunter Harvey, David Hess, Yefry Ramirez, Steve Wilkerson, Engelb Vielma, Jimmy Yacabonis, Tanner Scott, Pedro Araujo, Chris Lee, Anthony Santander, and Austin Hays.

There is reason to believe that players like Craig Gentry and Colby Rasmus will be DFA’d which would allow for prospects like Cedric Mullins and D.J. Stewart to make their debut.

Steve Wilkerson has certain flashed the glove at third base and looks to be a solid stay as this rebuilding occurs. Drew Dosch and Renato Nunez have certainly been hitting well enough to get their opportunity at the end of the season.

Relievers like Luis Gonzales and Branden Kline have been impressive at Bowie and could certainly work their way onto the roster when it expands in September.

While many have called for the full fire sale immediately starting at the end of April or beginning of May, it is important to remember that in a lost season, the service clocks do not need to get started this early.
