At this point, it’s essentially a foregone conclusion that the Baltimore Orioles will trade Manny Machado this season—but where will he end up?

At this point, it’s essentially a foregone conclusion that the Baltimore Orioles will trade Manny Machado this season. He’s in the final year of his contract, he’s definitely not signing an extension, and the Orioles are not going to the postseason.

The question at this point is just where Machado ends up. Manny is one of the best players in baseball, and he looks to be on pace for a career year. Given that the Baltimore Orioles are (or at least should be) in rebuilding mode, it’s reasonable to expect that the team could get a pretty large prospect haul for Machado.

So who’s going to trade for him? There’s a number of teams that could, but I’m going to look at five that I think are the most likely.

And before you ask if the Los Angeles Dodgers are on there—no, they’re not. I know, they’ve lost Corey Seager for the season, it seems like Machado would be a perfect fit for them, but I just don’t know how likely it is.

The Dodgers haven’t exactly had the season they expected, they may not be World Series contenders anymore. They’re not going to sign Machado to an extension given that they’ve got Seager and Justin Turner, so trading for Machado would absolutely be a rental.

So what’s the point? If they’re not in a position to make a World Series run, why would they trade away their top prospects for a Machado rental? It doesn’t make sense for their team.

Neither are the New York Yankees. Given how good Didi Gregorius is, and the fact that they’ve got both Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar, I don’t see how (or why) Manny would fit on that team.

Anyways, without further ado, here are five teams that Manny Machado could end up on.
