Baltimore Orioles Power Past Royals Despite Chris Tillman’s Rough Start

Baltimore Orioles sluggers Adam Jones, Manny Machado and Trey Mancini blast home runs as the Orioles extend win streak.

After seven starts, Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman holds a 1-5 record with a 10.46 ERA. In the past two games, Tillman has allowed 12 earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. As a result, Tillman owns a 46.29 ERA in the month of May and the Orioles still gives him the start every fifth day.

Fortunately, Thursday night, the Orioles offense erupted for 11 runs for victory No. 10 of the 2018 season. Above all, the Orioles grab the series victory against the Kansas City Royals thanks to home runs by Trey Mancini, Manny Machado and Adam Jones.

Early MVP candidate, Machado lifted his 10th home run of the season in the first inning to cut the Orioles early deficit to one run, 4-3.

A couple innings later, Jones propelled his sixth home run of the season before Mancini projected his fourth home deep to center field to put the Orioles on top 9-6 after four innings of play in the Orioles’ 11-6 victory over the KC Royals.

Most noteworthy, Orioles 23-year-old pitcher Miguel Castro tossed 4.2 innings in relief for Tillman to keep the Orioles in the ball game. Castro held the Royals to four hits and allowed only two walks to decrease his ERA to 3.55 and deservingly earn his first victory of the young season.

After Castro, lefty pitcher Tanner Scott, who was just promoted, threw two innings with four strikeouts to keep the Royals offense quiet.

Next, the Orioles best starting pitcher of late, Kevin Gausman, gets the series-opening start against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards as the Orioles strive for their first three-game win streak of the season.

Regarding the American League standings, the Orioles sit 16 games back from American League East division-leading Boston Red Sox. The Orioles escaped the bottom of the AL Wild Card standings by passing the last-place Chicago White Sox and trail the Houston Astros by 13 games heading into Friday’s MLB schedule.
