Baltimore Orioles Send Colby Rasmus to DL, Recall Jimmy Yacabonis
By Steve Rudden
The Baltimore Orioles signed Colby Rasmus during spring training and he’s not really doing well early on in 2018.
After a poor start to his Baltimore Orioles career, Colby Rasmus has been placed on the 10-day DL due to a hip flexor strain, per the Orioles organization.
As a result, prospect pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Yacabonis, 26, pitched 20.2 innings with the Orioles in 2017 with a 4.35 ERA.
However, before being sent to the DL Saturday morning, Baltimore Orioles fans are fed up just more than a week into the season.

Yes, Orioles fans are a passionate group, but the signing of Rasmus was a headscratcher in spring training. It’s only a week into the 2018 season and it’s time for the Orioles to release Rasmus.
It’s gotten to the point where we know that Rasmus won’t deliver in key situations. So why bother putting him in as a pinch hitter? Last night, for example, he came up with the bases loaded in extra innings and struck out. I’m sure I’m not the only Oriole fan that knew he was going to strike out.
He’s notorious for the strikeout. He’s like Chris Davis and a Mark Reynolds. Either they might hit a homer, but most likely it’ll be a strikeout.
It’s only been a week into the season and he has a total of 13 strikeouts in 21 at-bats with only two hits. That’s not very good. It’s time to release Colby Rasmus.
The Rasmus experience with the Orioles should be over. He should’ve been released after the Orioles extra-inning win over the New York Yankees on Friday night.
It’s time to call up Austin Hays and let him get more experience in the major leagues. I know he wouldn’t be playing every day, but at least he’d be in the big leagues.

I’m not exactly sure what the Orioles are going to do with Anthony Santander when he’s eligible to be sent down to the minors, but it would be nice to have a platoon of Hays and Santander.
Let’s hope Rasmus can figure it out while on the 10-day DL or else he’s going to keep hurting the Orioles and making the fans question the signing and why he is even playing.
