2. Dave McNally, 181 Wins

Dave McNally spent all but one of his 14 MLB seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, which included two World Series titles, three All-Star selections and 181 wins. At just 19-years-old, McNally made his MLB debut in 1962 by tossing a two-hit shutout in his only start of the season.

McNally returned his sophomore season to make 20 starts and go 7-8 with a mediocre 4.58 ERA. The next few years up to 1965, McNally was the Orioles No. 5 starter on the rotation but pitched outstanding in the second half of the season by going 11-6 with a low 2.85 ERA.

In the span of four seasons (1968-1971), McNally was exceptional as he accumulated:

  • 87 wins
  • 644 strikeouts
  • 145 games started
  • 56 complete games
  • 11 shutouts

In addition to the four remarkable seasons, McNally earned his third All-Star selection in 1972 with a 2.95 ERA despite a losing record (13-17).

However, his 1970 season surpassed them all as he went 24-9 in 296 innings pitched and finished runner-up in the AL Cy Young Award voting. Looking back at the voting, three Orioles starting pitchers (McNally, Cuellar and Palmer) finished in the top five voting results.

Not to mention, McNally became the first pitcher ever to hit a grand slam in the World Series:

McNally helped the Orioles to six playoff seasons and owns a career 2.56 ERA in the postseason with six complete games and a 7-4 record. Finished his Orioles career as the all-time wins leader in Orioles history before Palmer eventually took over.
