Maryland Basketball: Terps Go On the Road to Play Ohio State
After a bounce-back win against Iowa Sunday night, Maryland basketball heads back on the road against an Ohio State basketball team fresh off an 80-63 victory over college basketball’s No. 1 team at the time, Michigan State.
Maryland basketball redeemed themselves against Iowa at home with a 91-73 victory and now they are back on the road to play the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Maryland basketball (14-4, 3-2 Big Ten) has a road matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes (11-4, 4-0 Big Ten). Unlike the Terps, the Buckeyes were able to upset top-ranked Michigan State over the weekend.
Last season, these two teams played each other twice in the regular season (Jan. 31 and Feb. 11) with Maryland taking both meetings 77-71 and 86-77 respectively.

Justin Jackson led the Terps with 22 points and 12 rebounds in the first meeting while Anthony Cowan and Kevin Huerter combined for 37 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the February matchup.
The Maryland Terrapins will be facing an Ohio State basketball team with Big Ten leading scorer Keita Bates-Diop, who played just nine games a season ago. One year later, Diop now averages 20 points per game and leads his team in total minutes played (541), points (340), rebounds (150), steals (21) and blocks (27).
The Buckeyes also have three other players who score in double figures: C.J. Jackson (13.5 PPG), Jae’Sean Tate (12.9 PPG) and Kaleb Wesson (11.5 PPG).
The Buckeyes beat the Spartans by winning the battle in turnovers (12-6), field goal percentage (52 percent – 36 percent) and three-point shooting percentage (46 percent-28 percent).
In Maryland’s matchup with the Buckeyes, these categories are going to be essential to giving Ohio State their first Big Ten loss.
A win against Ohio State would go along way in terms of building momentum in the Big Ten for the Terps as they play both the Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines (Jan. 15) before coming back home to play the Minnesota Golden Gophers three days later.
Entering Thursday morning, ESPN BPI gives Ohio State a 65.7 percent chance to beat Maryland basketball.
