Maryland Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 1 UConn, 97-72
Maryland women’s basketball suffered their second loss of the season on the road against the Connecticut Huskies, 97-72.
Maryland women’s basketball could not outlast Geno Auriemma’s Connecticut Huskies (3-0) as they never gained the lead once in the game.
Maryland women’s basketball (2-2) dropped to 0-7 against the Huskies in a game where all five of UConn’s starters had double-figure point totals. Kia Nurse led the way for Connecticut with 21 points four rebounds, two assists and shot 62% from the three-point line (5-8).

This game had a lot of steals, rebounds, and turnovers. UConn outrebounded the Terps 57-35, Maryland had the edge in steals 16-10 and both teams combined for a whopping 45 turnovers. That is something that both Brenda Frese and Geno Auriemma will not be happy with
Was this bad loss for the Terps? not necessarily. They were just playing against the best team in the nation. It’s going to be tough. More times than not, things aren’t going to go the other teams’ way.
These two early matchups (South Carolina, UConn) against top talent, despite being losses, will only prepare them for what they have to face in the Big Ten. One thing that needs to be squared away is the turnovers. You can’t turn the ball over 20+ times a game no matter who your playing.
The good thing about this, however, the turnover discrepancy wasn’t that large. Connecticut had 25 turnovers. Maryland’s defense when it comes to taking the ball away is solid.
