Baltimore Orioles Top 5 All-Time Leaders in Career Stolen Bases
By Ben Palmer
2. Brian Roberts – 278 stolen bases
Baltimore Orioles fans remember Brian Roberts quite well, I’m sure. Roberts was one of the most exciting players the Orioles had developed in quite some time, and came onto the scene when the Orioles were in the middle of their 14-year drought of winning seasons.
Roberts was drafted by the Orioles and played for them his entire career, save for his final season with the New York Yankees. It’s hard to pick a best season for Brian Roberts, because there were two that really stand out, and they were the two seasons that earned him his only two All-Star appearances.
In 2005, Roberts slashed .314/.387/.515 with 18 home runs, 92 runs, 73 RBIs, and 27 stolen bases, a career-best in home runs. In 2007, he slashed .290/.377/.432 with 12 home runs, 103 runs, 57 RBIs, and 50 stolen bases, a career-best in steals.
Unfortunately, Roberts’ career was mired by injury, and after the 2009 season, he never played more than 77 games in a single season, spending almost the entirety of the 2012 season either out or in the Orioles’ minor league system, playing just 17 games with the major league team.
