Former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones will be retiring as a Raven this afternoon during a press conference. Jones had a memorable stint with the Baltimore Ravens, including being a major reason the Ravens won a Super Bowl in 2012.
Jones came out of Lane College, a Division II NCAA school and was drafted in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, playing for them until he was released in 2012.
Jones then signed with the Baltimore Ravens and had what was easily his best and most memorable year. During the regular season, he tied an NFL record returning a kickoff against the Oakland Raiders for a 108-yard touchdown, and then returned a kickoff against the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 105-yard touchdown, becoming the first player in NFL history to have two kickoff returns of 105 yards or more.
But easily, what Jacoby Jones is best known for, especially in Baltimore, is his performance in the 2012 postseason that ultimately culminated in the Baltimore Ravens winning their second Super Bowl.
In the 2012 AFC Divisional Round playoffs, the Ravens were down to the Denver Broncos 35-28 with just 40 seconds left in the game. On 3rd & 3, Joe Flacco launched a bomb to Jones that ended up in a touchdown to tie the game, which the Ravens ended up winning in overtime.
Jones also had a very memorable performance in Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers, first with a 53-yard touchdown that put the Ravens up 21-3 in the second quarter:
And then with a 109-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, marking the longest play in Super Bowl or postseason history:
The Ravens ended up winning the game 34-31, and even though Joe Flacco won the Super Bowl MVP, Jones was a major contributor to the Ravens getting to the Super Bowl in the first place, and winning it.
Jones hasn’t played as a receiver in the NFL since his 2014 season with the Ravens, though he did spend a season with the San Diego Chargers and his final season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, mostly serving as a kick returner.

However, after his press conference this afternoon, Jacoby Jones will be remembered forever as a Baltimore Raven, as I would imagine most Ravens fans already do.
