2. Mike Mussina – 1,535 career strikeouts

Probably the most recent ace that the Baltimore Orioles have ever had on their staff (unless that one year from Erik Bedard counts?), Mussina played for the Orioles from 1991 to 2000, and then signed with the New York Yankees (sadly), playing for them from 2001 through 2008.

Moose was a fantastic pitcher, and it’s really unfortunate that the Orioles let him get away in free agency, because they haven’t really had a pitcher like him since.

He had the sixth-best season in Orioles history in terms of ERA differential in 1992, his first full year starting with the Orioles. He pitched to a 2.54 ERA, which was 1.21 points lower than the league average of 3.75.

During his career, Mussina was a five-time All-Star, won seven Gold Gloves, and led the MLB in wins in 1995 with 19. While he never won a Cy Young award, he finished in the top-five for the award six times.

His career numbers stack up pretty well too, as he’s 33rd all-time in career wins (270), 19th all-time in career strikeouts (2,813), and 23rd all-time in WAR (82.9).
