The non-conference portion of the 2017 Maryland basketball schedule has been released, highlighted by key matchups against Butler, Syracuse and Bucknell.

The non-conference part of the 2017-18 Maryland basketball schedule has emerged with the Terps season opener set for Nov. 10 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum against Stony Brook.

Followed by their season opener on the road, the Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team will return home to XFINITY Center for four consecutive games, first in a local clash against UMES on Nov. 12.

The headliner in Maryland’s schedule comes in the third game of the season as Maryland hosts Butler in the Gavitt Tip-Off Games on Nov. 15. After two straight years of rejuvenating a storied rivalry, the Georgetown-Maryland basketball series is on hold for the time being with last year’s thrilling matchup and Maryland victory marks the conclusion of the two-year contract.

The rest of Maryland basketball’s non-conference schedule features four road games including three straight games away from XFINITY Center, which begins in the Emerald Coast Classic at the newly built basketball arena at Northwest Florida State College. Maryland, who looks to make it five consecutive holiday tournament wins, will open against St. Bonaventure. The day after, Maryland will face either TCU or New Mexico to wrap up the Emerald Coast Classic.

The Terps three-game road trip ends with the Big Ten/ACC Challenge as Maryland plays Syracuse on Nov. 27 in the hostile environment of the Carrier Dome. Since entering the Big Ten conference in 2014, Maryland is winless (0-3) in the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge with losses against at the time No. 7 Virginia, ninth-ranked North Carolina and last season against Pittsburgh.

The Maryland basketball schedule ends non-conference play with five straight home games in matchups versus Ohio University, Gardner Webb, Catholic, Farleigh Dickenson and lastly against UMBC.
