The inaugural MLB ‘Players Weekend’, when players will sport eccentric nickname jerseys during the weekend of Aug. 25-27 as the Baltimore Orioles visit the Boston Red Sox.

Papo, Odachowski, Mr. Miami, Mamba, and Swaggy T are just some of the many nickname jerseys the Baltimore Orioles will wear for MLB Players Weekend on Aug. 25-27 as the Orioles travel to Fenway Park to play American League East rival Boston Red Sox.

With combined efforts from MLB and MLB Players Association, players will replace their last name with a nickname that represents a piece of their past with their youth baseball experience. Furthermore, uniforms will include vivid, caps with alternate-style logo with a Little League twist.

According to MLB.com, along with selected nicknames, youth-inspired uniforms will also include a patch on every jersey which players have the chance to write something that inspired them throughout their journey from Little League to the pros.

Here are some of the most notable nicknames from Orioles players, along with jerseys complete with nicknames for every player:

For Orioles right-handed pitcher Darren O’Day, the name that will be on the back of his jersey, Odachowski, represents his family’s initial last name. O’Day’s grandfather passed away soon after he returned from World War II. As a result, the 2015 All-Star’s grandmother took on the responsibility of taking care of three boys by herself, per MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli.

In detail, Ghiroli explains the background on last name change from Odachowksi to O’Day:

"When his grandmother would go to work at Chicago’s Montgomery Ward, she would make it easier to pronounce by going by Mrs. Odach (with the “ch” part silent in the Polish community).O’Day’s father and one of his brothers changed their last names to O’Day as a tribute to their mother when they got married."

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones nickname Pappo is a name that his mother would often call him when he was a child and still does to this day. Jones also revealed to Ghiroli that he will tribute his mother not only on the back of his jersey but also on the special patch.
